Medical Terminology

Medical terminology is at the heart of healthcare, whether NHS or private and is used in every specialty. If you are a secretary, receptionist, manager or, indeed, employed in any administrative grade, the chances are that you will need a good grasp of medical terminology to do your job effectively.

The AMSPAR Level 2 Certificate in Medical Terminology

for Non-clinical Professionals

The aim of the AMSPAR Level 2 Award is to provide learners, who have no previous knowledge of the subject, with a grounding in the correct construction, recognition and usage of medical terminology. Examinations are held in January and June. This programme can be studied at home or through a recognised centre

Home Study

AMSPAR can provide a booklet which contains a reading list and sample examination paper. It also contains the aims and objectives of the qualification.

You will need to study the recommended books at home. This is not a distance
learning course.
You should contact a test centre at least six weeks before the examination you
wish to take.
Centres will charge an examinations entry fee.
The length of study depends on your current level of knowledge.

Objectives

The candidate will learn:

the structure and meaning of medical terms
the meaning of medical terms related to body systems
the meaning of medical terms for different medical specialities
the meaning of abbreviations concerning drugs and prescriptions

Correct spelling of medical terminology is a requirement for this qualification.
